Chaparral’s girls basketball team, ranked No. 7 in the Class 5A poll, won the Fruita Monument tournament last week on the Western slope.
The Wolverines routed Grand Junction Central, 54-14, beat Air Academy, 70-24, in the semifinals and notched a 78-48 victory over Fruita Monument in the finals.
Chaparral won by an average of 38.7 points in the three tourney games.
DOUBLE TROUBLE - Castle View toppled Prairie View, 67-47, as Jess McGovern scored 12 points and Amy Schmeizer added 11 points in the victory.
LIBERTY RALLIES - Legend took a 33-28 lead into the fourth quarter but Liberty rallied for a 48-46 win over the Titans.
Mataya Racek scored 13 points and Megan Jordan had 12 to lead Legend.
DOUGLAS COUNTY LOSES TWO - The Huskies dropped a 61-40 decision to Columbine and Eaglecrest managed pulled out a 49-47 win.
Senior Jordan Pelley had 13 points in the narrow loss to Eaglecrest.
SECOND PLACE - Rock Canyon, ranked No. 9 in Class 5A, wound up second in the ThunderRidge/Rock Canyon tournament.
Kendall Koslosky scored 12 points as each of 10 players scored at least four points in a 69-28 win over Arvada West.
Rock Canyon outscored Cherry Creek 21-10 in the fourth quarter to post a 57-48 semifinal victory as Lexy Thorderson and Erin McClarie each scored 16 points.
Arapahoe downed the Jaguars 63-43 in the finals.
ThunderRidge, behind Cara Lantzy’s 13 points, beat Rangeview, 83-11, but then lost to Arapahoe, 50-38, and Cherry Creek, 42-38.
FALCONS LOSE, WIN - Highlands Ranch, the preseason top-ranked team that is now fifth in the latest poll, lost to Palmer, 54-51 and beat Sand Creek, 80-50.
LUTHERAN WINS - Jen Vigil scored 17 points as Lutheran edged Denver Science and Technology, 43-35.
EAGLES GROUNDED IN BOULDER – The Eagles went 1-2 at the Dakota Ridge Tournament, punctuated by a 71-63 loss to Boulder on Dec. 8. Kendall Bradbury led Valor Christian (1-3) with 23 points, while Kara Foley scored 18 points and Annalise Pequette scored 11.
