Xcel offers free lighting audits

Xcel Energy is offering free lighting audits for business customers as well as a slew of rebates for those who choose to become more energy-efficient.

“Thirty percent of all energy is wasted energy,” said Xcel Energy efficiency specialist John Schneider. “Our job is to help you discover where you are wasting that energy and what that energy looks like.”

Schneider said that 60 percent of all energy used in office buildings comes from lighting. The company offers rebates of $15 per bulb when switching to more energy-efficient light bulbs. Hit a dinger with Dinger

Spring training is officially under way and that means baseball is right around the corner — for all ages and levels. The Highlands Ranch Community Association will celebrate its own opening weekend March 1-3 with the opening of the batting cages at Westridge Recreation Center, 9650 S. Foothills Canyon Blvd.

There will be free cookouts and giveaways from 4-7 p.m. March 1 and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. March 2, and Dinger, the Colorado Rockies mascot, will swing by from 1-3 p.m. on March 2. There will be $5 all-you-can-hit specials on Friday and Saturday and 2-for-1 tokens on Sunday as well as daily home run competitions all three days.

Spring hours at the cages are 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday March 1-31 with special noon-7 p.m. hours during spring break, March 21-22 and March 25-29. The cages offer five baseball and four softball stalls ranging in speeds from 30-80 mph.

Comedy at Southridge

Comedian Shawn Preston will appear at the Debus Wildcat Mountain Auditorium at Southridge Recreation Center, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road, from 7-8 p.m. March 1. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 day of. The event is for ages 21-up only as there will be a cash bar. Tickets may be purchased at any HRCA recreation center or by calling 303-471-8859. Tickets will be available at the door if it is not sold out.
