About meI grew up in a suburb of Chicago. I went to college at the University of Illinois and studied elementary education. I got a master’s degree in English as a second language from Concordia University Chicago. In 2008, I became really interested in photography and started taking courses. People started asking me to take their pictures, so I was working as a full-time teacher and doing photography on the weekends. We moved out to Colorado and had two kids, and after my second child I decided to switch over to photography full time.My love for photographyI have a studio in my basement where I do most of my newborn shoots and indoor sessions. I usually take photos around Highlands Ranch — there are so many great parks and locations with mountain views. My business is mostly word of mouth and people who see my work on social media. My focus is newborns, families, engagements and seniors. I love newborns — it is such an honor to take a photo of a little baby and be a part of someone’s life in that week or two after birth. I have two kids so I know — they only look like a newborn for that short period of time. I treasure my newborn photos and I want to create that same feeling for others.I donate two or three photography packages to local schools for fundraisers. I like to support schools because I was a teacher and know how much money they need. And it’s fun to get to know people in the community. Our communityI love that it is so family-oriented. We go to library story time, we love the rec centers, there are parks everywhere. I get to walk my daughter to preschool every morning. This community was clearly made for families. To see my work, visit kathleenbrackenphotography.com or facebook.com/kbphoto13
