Schools need your vote

The Douglas County School District currently has capital needs that could threaten the physical safety or interrupt the education of children in our community and no dedicated funding source to rectify this crisis. Staff salaries are well below those of our neighboring districts, resulting in a continual loss of personnel, which is detrimental to students. The constant turnover puts undue burden on our entire system. Over the last decade, we have seen educational programming cut, class sizes increase and a growing need for mental health support.

School Accountability Committees, or SACs, play a major role in every school across Douglas County. These advisory groups consist of elected parent leaders and community members, tasked with advising principals on our schools’ budgets, among other aspects of school operations. As long-time members of our childrens’ SACs, we recently drafted a resolution in support of 5A and 5B, a bond and mill levy override measure on this November’s ballot to fiscally support all public schools in the Douglas County School District. We invited all SACs across the district to join us, and 82 Douglas County schools either signed our resolution or wrote their own in support of 5A and 5B.

Please join parents from across Douglas County and vote yes on 5A and 5B!
