Rows of booths selling fresh-picked fruits and vegetables, foreign delicacies, hand-baked goods and trinkets line the streets of Town Center every Sunday in the summer season. Dozens of residents from the Denver metro area fill the gaps in between.
It's an early morning for vendor Ben Vega. He travels from Platteville, a rural town of less than 3,000 people near Greeley. Vega married into the Domenico family, which since the 1960s has operated Ray Domenico Farms. His booth sits near the front of the Highlands Ranch Farmers' Market, lined with colorful, leafy vegetables.
“It's fast-paced,” Vega said of the market. “There are a lot of good people coming through.”
The outdoor market is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through the first week of November at Town Center, 9288 Dorchester St.
Hosted by the Highlands Ranch Community Association and Denver Farmers' Market, the event features handmade and homegrown products from more than 30 vendors across the Front Range.
Pam Baron, of Centennial, has always baked sweet treats for family and friends.
A stay-at-home mom for years, she decided to start a baked goods company last May. Her booth, Wham Bam, Thank you Pam!, offers pies, brownies, chocolate chunk cookies and gluten-free options. Baron and her husband David, who she calls her “minion,” bake the desserts the day before.
For Baron, it's not so much about the baking as it is about the personal interaction. She vividly remembers a young girl's “glorious” expression after tasting one of her brownies.
“I do it for the people at this point,” Baron said.
Susan Krepp, who sells a fruit and vegetable supplement called Juice Plus+, has a similar outlook.
“It gets really busy and everyone is super friendly,” she said. “It's just a wholesome, family-friendly atmosphere.”
