Posted

Voters living within the borders of the Douglas County School District were asked to approve a pair of tax increases. As of 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, the answer to both Ballot Issue 3A and Ballot Issue 3B was a resounding no.

Ballot Issue 3A asks voters to approve a mill levy override up to 56 mills to collect $20 million in 2012 and additional taxes in subsequent years to finance tenure reform through pay-for-performance, classroom supplies to subsidize supplies for financially underprivileged students and for core instructional areas to ensure students receive access to a world-class education system.

3A was failing 29,159 votes to 21,677 votes as of the 9:25 p.m. tally reported by Douglas County.

Ballot Issue 3B asks voters to increase taxes to finance debt up to $200 million for technology to monitor teacher, staff and student performance, to finance construction and maintenance of new and existing schools and to add equipment and infrastructure for items that include but are not limited to technology and Internet or network equipment.

This measure was being turned down, 29,391 votes to 20,080 votes.
