Voters living within the borders of the Douglas County School
District were asked to approve a pair of tax increases. As of 9:25
p.m. Tuesday, the answer to both Ballot Issue 3A and Ballot Issue
3B was a resounding no.
Ballot Issue 3A asks voters to approve a mill levy override up
to 56 mills to collect $20 million in 2012 and additional taxes in
subsequent years to finance tenure reform through
pay-for-performance, classroom supplies to subsidize supplies for
financially underprivileged students and for core instructional
areas to ensure students receive access to a world-class education
system.
3A was failing 29,159 votes to 21,677 votes as of the 9:25 p.m.

Ballot Issue 3B asks voters to increase taxes to finance debt up
to $200 million for technology to monitor teacher, staff and
student performance, to finance construction and maintenance of new
and existing schools and to add equipment and infrastructure for
items that include but are not limited to technology and Internet
or network equipment.
This measure was being turned down, 29,391 votes to 20,080
votes.
