4 win scholarship from Lone Tree's Sky Ridge

Sky Ridge rewards senior volunteers in inaugural scholarship


Sky Ridge Medical Center announced recipients of its inaugural student scholarship.

The Lone Tree hospital launched the Sky Ridge Student Scholarship program this year for student volunteers pursuing academic degrees in careers in health care, according to a release.

The $5,000 in scholarships were awarded to four senior volunteers with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and a desire to pursue a career in health care.

“These students have dedicated more than 2,800 hours to us throughout their high school career and have taken on impressive leadership roles in our program,” Volunteer Director John Penn stated in the release.

Here are the winners of the 2020 Sky Ridge Student Scholarship:

Carter Brand, Rock Canyon High School -- Brand is attending Lafayette College (Easton, Pennsylvania) and is considering a career as a trauma surgeon. Brand volunteered at the Sky Ridge information desk, progressed to the intensive care unit and later to the adult emergency department.

Sydney Brennan, Highlands Ranch High School -- Brennan is attending the University of Alabama and plans to pursue a career as a pediatric cardiologist. Brennan joined the volunteer program in eighth grade and rotated through six departments, including extensive time on the cardiac care floor.

Mokshanga Gude, Rock Canyon High School -- Gude is attending the University of South Florida where she plans to pursue a career in rural health care, focusing on providing medical care to children with insufficient medical access. Gude rotated through five departments, including the neonatal and standard ICU and pediatric emergency room.

Reed Rohr, ThunderRidge High School -- Rohr is attending the University of Nebraska where she plans to pursue a career in emergency medicine. Reed began at the information desk and later spent extensive time on the Cardiac Care Unit and in the adult emergency department.
