Aging with grace, aging with help

Help is here for families facing aging and the need for services for senior members.

Funded in part by a grant from Douglas County, Jodie McCann, seniors services coordinator, can direct people to programs, services and information on aging issues. She also is creating classes and workshops.

The next series will be at St. Marks Catholic church in January. Topics will include spirituality and aging, legal issues and trends and options for long-term care.

She does not see her job as working only with the community’s elders, but also families looking for answers.

“So many people in Highlands Ranch are a sandwich generation, taking care of kids at home and taking more care of their parents,” McCann said. “We are here to help with that stress.”

Her office is a clearing house of fliers, resource guides and places McCann has ferreted information from to pass along.

For many families, finding the questions is a starting point.

McCann earned a degree in gerontology from the University of Minnesota and certificates in dementia care from the Alzheimer’s Association and the University of Denver.

She spent about 20 years in the elder care industry — long-term care administration and human resources; senior housing and health care sales and marketing; intergenerational programming and in-home care franchise support; marketing and training.

She is looking for organizations willing to host her talks and workshops.

For more information on available senior services, contact McCann at 720-240-4922 or at jmccann@highlandsranch.org.

The January workshops are Jan. 7, 14 and 21.
