Backcountry celebrates backers

Event at brewery is conclusion to fundraising that stretched over 14 days

The inaugural Back the Backcountry Day Party brought in more than 200 people to the Living the Dream Brewing Co. Nov. 14.

The event put a bookend on a 14-day fundraising effort benefiting the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Conservation & Education Fund.

Donations of $11,353 to the fund came from 120 supporters.

“Back the Backcountry Day was created with far more than a fundraising goal in mind,” spokeswoman Lindsey McKissick said in an email. “It’s about building a community of people around the HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area who champion local wildlife habitat conservation and environmental education.”

The event featured live music, $1 pints, and giveaways from Giant Denver and Elevation Cycles.

“We’re still working to get 200 total supporters by the end of 2019 to continue to boost projects like fire mitigation,” McKissick said. “And our Future Conservationists Initiative, which brings no-cost environmental education to local second grade classrooms.”
