For 25 years, Bessie's Hope supporters have gone bowling to raise money and awareness for the organization's intergenerational programs that pair nursing home elders with at-risk youths.
This year's Bowl-A-Rama will take place Saturday, Nov. 23. Participants can go to www.bessieshope.org to register their team and start collecting donations. Participation includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, beverage and goody bag. Prizes for collecting the most donations ($40 minimum) include a 25th anniversary T-shirt, a Denver date night and a Nintendo Switch.
Check-in begins and pizza is served from 12:30-1:10 p.m., and bowling and awards will take place from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Three bowling locations are participating: Brunswick Zone Westminster, 9150 Harlan St., Westminster; AMF Littleton Lanes, 2530 E. County Line Road, Littleton; and AMF Monaco Lanes, 6767 Leetsdale Drive, Denver.
The event is presented by the Rotary clubs of Highlands Ranch, Arvada, Aurora Gateway, Five Points, South Jeffco, Westminster 7:10 and Wheat Ridge.
Bessie's Hope provides education and training to youth groups, adult groups, families and individuals to bring generations together. About 2,000 youths from preschool to high school participate each year, with a large number coming from at-risk and residential treatment programs. The young volunteers spend time with nursing home residents, 60 percent of whom receive no personal visitors.
