Fire investigators say a candle left alone caused a fire at 9945 Darwin Lane.

No injuries were reported but damage to the home is about $40,000.

The homeowner, Dana Marjomaki, said her son left a candle burning in a second floor bedroom.

Investigators said the flames crawled up a wall and when fire crews arrived at the home about 10:25 p.m., Feb. 18, flames were visible through a second-story window.

Marjomaki and her son were alerted by a smoke alarm and got out of the house.
