Castle Rock Colorado Genealogical Society: Google Earth for Genealogy Session 1

Posted by csmaha@msn.com

Have you tried to use Google Earth Pro to enhance your genealogical research or add color to your family story? Has Google Earth Pro left you scratching your head, wondering if you are using it to its full potential, or simply wondering where to even begin? Join us for this two-part series as we move step-by-step through this fabulous resource.

We'll learn how to use historical maps, satellite imagery, terrain maps, 3-D views of city streets, how to identify a photo's location, locate homestead records on today's maps, overlay a historical map over a current-day map, applying all of this to our genealogical research.

This hands-on workshop requires that participants have Google Earth Pro (FREE) downloaded to their laptop before arriving. Registrants will receive download instructions prior to the first session. If you don’t have a laptop to bring with you to the workshop, we will pair you with someone who does.

Session 1: I’ve downloaded Google Earth Pro; now what? Using the video as our guide, we will stop at each step in order to practice what we’ve learned and restart the video when everyone is comfortable. Step-by-step instructions will be emailed out to help you with the process.
