Centennial Water reported a theft to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office last week, after a payment box was damaged and checks and cash for monthly payments were taken.
Communications Relations Manager Kari Larese said that over Labor Day weekend the water bill payment drop box located in the parking lot at the administrative building, located at 62 Plaza Drive, was vandalized and robbed.
Larese said Centennial Water has filed a police report, but in the meantime worked throughout the week to find customers who may have left their monthly water bill in the payment box between the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 3 and morning of Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Centennial Water notified customers via email, social media and the company's website. Customers who paid at the drop box can contact Centennial Water at 303-791-0361.
Larese said Centennial Water does has the drop box under constant surveillance and the video was turned over to the sheriff's department.
Larese said because the drop box was left over the long holiday weekend, Centennial does not yet know who much money was stolen.
Centennial Water provides water and wastewater services to all of Highlands Ranch.
Larese said a suspect has not yet been identified by authorities.
