Falcons, Jaguars. Mountain Vista, Valor Christian, qualify for regional softball tournament


AURORA --Three Highlands Ranch teams qualified for this weekend's regional softball tournaments.

Rocky Canyon took the 16th seed and faces Ralston Valley at 10 a.m. at Horizon High School. Highlands Ranch faces the top-seeded Hawks, also at 10 a.m.

Mountain Vista, the No. 8 seed, also hosts a regional tournament. The Golden Eagles face Vista Ridge at 10 a.m., while Chaparral and Valor Christian also play at 10 a.m.

The format is the same for both tournaments. The winners of the 10 a.m. games play at 12:15 p.m. for one of the state tournament berths. The two losing teams from the 10 a.m. games also play at 12;15. The winner of the consolation round game faces the losing from the 12:15 p.m. state-title qualifying game for the second state slot. That starts at 3 p.m.

The state tournament starts Friday, Oct. 22, at Aurora Sports Park, East Colfax Avenue east of Tower Road.
