Western Welcome Week was off to a great start on Aug. 9, with crowds thronging to Sterne Park in Littleton for a barbecue, concert and fireworks.
The Rotary Club of Littleton, now in its third year running the kickoff barbecue, hosted the first-ever beer garden at the event, said club president Bill White.
“This is like Littleton's own county fair,” White said of Western Welcome Week. “I know I'm not the only one who looks forward to it all year.”
Kids scampered in the grass in front of the Arapahoe and Heritage high school drum lines, who were followed by Sean Swallow singing the national anthem, and finally a performance by the Denver Municipal Band. The evening wound up with a fireworks show synchronized to music.
The event drew attendees for plenty of different reasons.
“I come for the kettle corn,” said Reed Underwood, sitting in the grass with his girlfriend, “but I stay for the drum lines.”
