Four Valor Christian athletes will travel downtown this week to
represent their school in the Class 4A state wrestling tournament
at the Pepsi Center.
The Eagles finished fourth in the team standings and had two
wrestlers, Cody Weltzel (130) and Torey Welch (145), finish second
in their weight classes. They will be joined by two teammates, Chaz
Poison (140) and Wil Robinson (152), who each battled back from a
loss, moved into the consolation bracket and took third place,
which qualified them for state.
Now, the action moves to the Pepsi Center, where, for state,
wrestlers are seeded according to finish at regionals in the first
round of competition, which begins Feb. 17.
Action resumes Feb. 18 with the championship quarterfinals. It

consolation matches will be held after the championship
quarterfinals and the second round of consolation matches will
begin at 7 p.m.
The third round and consolation semifinals begin at 12:30 p.m.
Feb. 19. Fifth-place matches will start at 3 p.m. with third-place
matches to follow. The championships in all four classification
will begin at 6:30 p.m.
