Highlands Ranch gets outside

Nearly a week into the state's stay-at-home order, many Highlands Ranch residents left their homes to enjoy a sunny afternoon April 1.

While many parking lots and stores were essentially abandoned, the parks and roads were filled with cyclists, runners and walkers. Others enjoyed playing sports in their yards, climbing trees and creating chalk art.

On trails, some joggers and walkers observed social distancing by stepping off the trail as others passed.

Some teenagers met at basketball courts, going past signs marking playgrounds and other areas as closed.

The grassy areas of parks like Dad Clark Park and Civic Green Park were dotted with blankets as residents sprawled out and soaked up some sunshine. Others threw a ball for their dogs or played games with their kids.
