Letter to the editor: Keep politics out

Keep politics out

Recent letter writer Jake Meuli has the right of it.

My family has lived in Douglas County since 1983. Two of my three children experienced the DougCo educational system, as well as my two oldest garanddaughters now in their mid-20s.

In that time, there was a movement afoot by a certain political party to use school and library boards, etc., that typically went wanting for candidates, as training ground/stepping stones for future elected positions.

I heard of the movement while working for a government agency in Colorado Springs in the early ‘90s.

Soon, I noticed it occurring in DougCo. And then a party started running slates of candidates, which traditionally was never done, and folks, that’s when the wheels starting coming off a great school system.
