Vote yes on 5A, 5B

As a parent, community member and director of the Douglas County Board of Education, I fully support 5A and 5B. Passing a bond and mill levy override would provide DCSD with a financial boost it has not had since 2006, when the last funding measure passed.

My oldest daughter attended DCSD schools and my youngest is currently enrolled. Both have watched key teachers leave. Passing an MLO is necessary to ensure we recruit and retain the best staff instead of losing them to districts which pay more. My daughters have attended classes in mobile facilities lacking adequate security. Passing a bond will improve this situation.

There is no more exciting development in our county than the Arapahoe Community College Collaborative Campus. ACC and Colorado State University are working closely with our school district to provide every student with pathways towards college credit or a career. 5A & 5B will spur this activity by increasing career and tech ed opportunities and aid in the push for partnerships between DCSD, higher education and local businesses.

DCSD has made tremendous strides in preparing for this initiative. This includes reducing administration costs. $7 Million in ongoing cuts were made in 2017-18, with an additional $5 million made in 2018-19. Further, an oversight committee will be formed to ensure transparency as to how 5A and 5B funds are allocated.

This proposal is a reasonable request of taxpayers. It’s an investment in our children we can’t afford NOT to make. Vote YES on 5A & 5B.

Anthony Graziano

Douglas County School Board member
