A bad idea
While everyone has been looking down at the 2.02-acre ground proposed for senior apartments/senior center at Dorchester and Ridgeline, many have yet to look up and realize what a monstrous blot a five-story apartment building would be. What is Shea Properties thinking?
Shea built the "upscale" Brownstones at Town Center. Now they want to put "affordable senior housing" in a five-story monolith that will overshadow the Civic Green Park and Highlands Ranch Library. Ninety percent-plus of the retail in Town Center areas is single story. The four-story Clocktower condos are set back, nicely landscaped. Area traffic/parking is already highly congested. Civic Green Park and Town Center host many events year-round. Cars are parked for blocks in every direction. The promise of underground parking or garage expansion does not calm concerns about dark areas parking where homeless and "kids" hang out already.
Shea Properties is developing the 100-acre project at Central Park, which will have 200 single-family homes, plus townhomes, multi-family units, office buildings, the hospital and the commercial area. Can’t just one of those buildings still be made to accommodate "affordable senior housing"? The Dorchester site was once proposed for a performance arts center. Concept drawings show a smaller building with setbacks and landscaping. Another easy fit example is the Lone Tree Library, a two-story, 42,000-square-foot building, on a 2.3-acre site with parking and open ground. Everyone should just say no to this project.
