Letter to the editor: Health orders are impractical

Health orders are impractical

While I support most efforts to try to control the spread of COVID, this latest “Red” health order from Governor Polis puzzles me. As you reported in this paper any gathering of two or more people not from the same household in public or private is prohibited. This is a difficult if not impossible order to follow. I don’t know anyone who didn’t violate this order over the Thanksgiving holiday. Anyone visiting anyone else was in violation. It also makes me wonder how Governor Polis himself was exposed to the virus without violating his own order. If it was his own infected household member that he was exposed to that no doubt would have been reported. Immaculate infection? What good is an order that no one can follow, even the official who issued it? Government and health officials need to follow the science but also realities of human behavior and issue rules that they and the public can actually adhere to in practical terms, or else they risk that their rules will not be followed at all.
