Letter to the editor: Question on enrollment issue

Question on enrollment issue

A recent issue contained an article, “Enrollment decline may devastate schools.” Declining enrollment in the state is real. My question to the many school districts is, “How are you proactively responding to the declined enrollment?”

Private industry, during the COVID pandemic, has been hit hard in many areas, with restaurants being a prime example. People have been laid off, had hours reduced, and had wages cut.

Government, on the other hand, seems to proceed on a pace of “business as usual.” Will schools make corresponding payroll reductions commensurate with the enrollment decline, or will we the taxpayers be forced to support a payroll rich environment? The answer to that question remains to be seen.
