My Name Is ... Cameron Skeen

Toy store manager enjoys helping residents choose perfect gift

Posted

I'm 24 and I live right here in Highlands Ranch. I grew up in Littleton and always went to school down there, but my family moved here about 16 years ago.

Right now, I'm the store manager for Timbuk Toys Highlands Ranch. I ended up working here because my parents came in to shop because we live so close, and they saw that Timbuk Toys was hiring so they picked up an application and encouraged me to fill it out and stop in.

My favorite part is working with kids and finding them that certain toy or game that can really make them happy!

How to choose the toy

A lot of it is just constantly walking the store and putting out inventory. I always look at everything I put out and think who this might be a good idea for if it were someone's birthday or a holiday. Plus, we have the opportunity to have a ton of demos to play with. (Perks of the job!)

Job takeaways

Something I've noticed from this job is that it pays off to be nice to the people you interact with. People, for the most part, are willing to work with you and listen to you if you can empathize with them and actively work to help them and in turn, they'll likely help you.

An engaging community

Highlands Ranch is a much more diverse and engaging community than I think some people may realize.

I like the proximity of everything around here. It feels like you can get just about anything you need in a relatively small area. My favorite spots around here are probably AMC 24 or Chipotle, two places that I probably spend too much time and money at.

My passions and hobbies

I'm a huge sports fan and concertgoer. If I'm not at the movies I'm probably watching some sort of sports game, if I don't have a concert that night that is. Other than that, I love to go up to the mountains and snowboard. I also love listening to podcast such as Spittin' Chiclets, Pardon My Take and KFC Radio! It's nice to have those outlets to kind of get away from everything for a little bit, everyone needs it once in a while!

The 2007 World Series

My favorite memory is probably being at Coors Field to watch Game 4 of the World Series between the Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox. As much of a bummer as it was to watch them get swept at home, it was incredible to watch my favorite team (The Rockies) and player (Todd Helton) during the end of such an unreal season. I never thought I'd ever get to see a World Series game in person, so that's something I'll always remember.
