Sale of Casa Bonita complete

Purchase approved by judge after group withdraws opposition

On Nov. 2, a bankruptcy judge approved the sale of Casa Bonita to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the animated “South Park” television series.

The sale’s approval came just days after a group called “Save Casa Bonita” withdrew a court filing objecting to the transaction.

Earlier this year, Save Casa Bonita used proceeds from a GoFundMe campaign to purchase some of the restaurant’s debt after Casa Bonita’s previous owners, Summit Family Restaurants, declared bankruptcy.

In September, Parker and Stone agreed to buy the iconic Lakewood restaurant — loved more for its cliff divers and family friendly attractions than its food — for $3.1 million.

Parker and Stone haven’t said when they plan to reopen Casa Bonita. But, in an August press conference with Gov. Jared Polis, the creative duo firmly declared their intentions to improve the food when they do.
