Tree tradition remains intact in Highlands Ranch

Shoppers at a local garden store strolled the facility, picking out their Christmas trees Dec. 9.

“I like that one,” one boy said to his parents, pointing to one of the tall trees.

The boy's brothers and parents, the Stone family, from Highlands Ranch, usually buy their Christmas trees from The Gardens, a local store selling real and artificial trees, indoor and lawn decorations, plants and other items. The store is located at 9542 S. University Blvd., near the corner of Highlands Ranch Parkway and University Boulevard.

“We like their trees and the people here are super helpful and nice,” Andrea Stone said.

This year, The Gardens started selling Christmas trees before Thanksgiving, which is earlier than usual, because of high demand, said staff member Steve O’Hare.

“Everyone was bored so they just decided to start buying trees,” he said.

The store offers a variety of trees from Colorado, North Carolina and Oregon.

O’Hare likes working at the store during the Christmas season as a switch from his regular job in golf as a PGA caddie, he said.

“I just like the atmosphere,” he said. “It’s nice and it keeps you in the Christmas spirit.”

This holiday season may be unusual with the new addition of masks and social distancing, but the Stone family is focusing on the traditions that remain unchanged.

“The silver lining is that everyone is home,” Andrea said. “I love having the family time despite everything being closed down.”
