Castle Rock’s Western heritage is alive and well. The town is set to celebrate during a weekend packed with activities, starting with the Friday-evening Western Heritage Welcome.
Western Heritage Welcome honors a time when large herds of cattle were driven through downtown Castle Rock. Cowboys and city folk alike are invited to join the celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. July 30.
Starting at 6 p.m., watch as cowhands drive a herd of longhorn cattle from Rock Park, down Perry Street, and into a corral near Festival Park. Residents are invited to grab a seat along Perry Street. Find a map of the best viewing locations at CRgov.com/WesternHeritage.
Following the cattle drive, visitors can go to Festival Park for a variety of Western-themed activities including food, cocktails, old-time photos, crafts and more. Plus, the Park County Regulators, a team of Old West reenactment actors, will perform a Wild West show around 6:45 p.m. Please be advised the actors will be using blank ammunition during their performance that will create a loud noise.
Starting at 5 a.m., parking will not be available on Perry Street. Parking will also be closed at Rock Park. At 4:30 p.m., Perry Street will be closed from Scott to South streets. Visitors must stay behind the protective barriers along Perry Street.
The Douglas County Fair and Rodeo, running July 31 through Aug. 8, picks up where Western Heritage Welcome leaves off. Fair tickets are available at douglascountyfairandrodeo.com.
The fair celebration begins with a Saturday-morning event — the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo Parade at 9:30 a.m. on July 31. The old-fashioned parade starts on the south end of town and continues through downtown.
Following the parade, join an old-fashioned themed fair at Boots and Brews. The festival will have food trucks, beer and live music in Festival Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get all the details at CRgov.com/WesternHeritage.
