Wildlife star in Backcountry social media

Online photos show elk, bears, bobcats and more

The Highlands Ranch Backcountry's best trail photos of the year are now being showcased through the conservation property's social media, showing bears, elk, bobcats and more wandering through the wilderness area.

The photos are from various locations across the 13-square-mile property, which is owned and maintained by the Highlands Ranch Community Association.

Every Tuesday until the end of the December, the Backcountry team will be sharing their favorite photos from the year on their Facebook page, @HRCABackcountry, using the tag #trailcamtuesday.

“It's a great way to educate our community on the diversity of wildlife that exists in the Backcountry,” spokeswoman Lindsey McKissick said. “The community gets an up-close look at the local wildlife with minimal impact to the animals or their habitats.”

Staff placed the trail cameras near water sources in the Backcountry to help their biologists monitor herd health, species numbers, diversity and patterns, she said.

“The diversity of species that we currently see on a regular basis is a promising sign that our conservation work is having a positive impact and that the ecosystem is healthy and thriving,” McKissick said.
