The director of dining services at Wind Crest has been named leader of the year for the continuing care retirement community in Highlands Ranch.
Tom Carlson, along with 19 other leaders, was honored at Erickson Living's annual meeting in Baltimore, according to a news release.
The Leader of the Year recognition is given to a manager or director who continually demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and inspires, motivates and empowers his or her team members to commit to excellence in serving Wind Crest residents, the release said.
As the director of dining services, Carlson oversees operations at Wind Crest's six restaurants featuring diverse dining experiences and distinctive menus, along with the community's team of culinary professionals. He also serves as a key member of Wind Crest's executive team.
“Tom is an enthusiastic leader whose commitment to self-leadership inspires those around him to be better,” Executive Director Craig Erickson said in the release. “He is a careful decision-maker, skilled communicator and dedicated to developing others, even during times of significant change. As a result of his leadership, Wind Crest has seen meaningful increases in resident satisfaction and employee engagement rates this year.”
Carlson has more than 25 years of restaurant industry experience. Prior to joining the Wind Crest team in July 2017, he owned and operated several restaurants as part of a multi-national brand.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as Leader of the Year at Wind Crest,” Carlson said in the release. “Especially to be nominated by my peers, for whom I have so much respect and admiration. As a community, we have had a very strong year which I believe is a direct result of the way this team works together and the deep relationships that we have. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of that team and this community.”
